Hey loves, happy New Year! I hope this year has started on a good note for you! How did you survive winter shopping and sales? 🙂 I know that’s a tough one, at least for me it always is 😀 So I wanted to share with you what helped me change that this year and I also included 4 capsule items that belongs to any winter wardrobe 😉
Tips on how to buy less but have more
I’ve started thinking about creating my capsule wardrobe one year ago after realising that I do not have enough of space in my wardrobe anymore and that what I have does not satisfy me. So I wrote down the basic items that I need to style my outfits every day and threw out all the clothes which did not satisfy me because of the quality, fitting or colour (thank you H&M for accepting all my old clothes for recycling!). I’m still in the process of filling my wardrobe with the capsule items. The ones I choose now are a bit more pricey but I know they would last and stay with me for long.
This winter I wanted to keep my wardrobe well organised but also have enough of clothes to style my outfits. Here are some great tips which helped me to survive winter sales without spending too much and stressing my wardrobe 🙂
- Think of your wardrobe as a capsule. It should have all the basics, but choose them wisely. Better invest in a more expensive item which you would value for the years to come than in something that would wear off fast.
- Pick good quality items, which would last. Choose natural fabrics over synthetic: cashmere, wool, silk etc. are amazing choices.
- Choose earthy colours which you could easily mix and match later.
- Don’t buy many of the same type of items (that doesn’t count when buying shoes and accessories though, as they put spice in all the outfits 🙂 ).
- When you find the item you like think if you could still wear it after 5 years or would it go out of fashion next year? Choose something that matches the rest of your wardrobe and will not go out of date soon.
4 winter capsule items
So this year instead of blasting on sales I decided to choose just a few items which could really go with anything for the years ahead. I chose :
- Classic beige cashmere sweater
- Oversized cashmere sweater
- Kitten heel boots
- Over the knee boots
All 4 items were from the brand which is thoughtful about the environment and provides good quality in shoes and clothes. Vivaia uses plastic bottles and 3D technology when creating seamless 3D knitted designs. My shoes are made from wool and they are extremely comfortable! I love the details that these shoes have and pretty much all Vivaia designs have some interesting touch to it (ex, my kitten heel boots are decorated with braided strings and over the knee boots have some sparkle in them). They look classic but also modern and could go well with so many outfits. The cashmere sweaters also have some cute details which makes them unique, like the shoulder pattern on the beige sweater and an interesting cut of the oversized sweater.
